An older woman arranging flowers at home, in warm evening light

Stories / For yourself

I live alone and I like it. I don’t want a camera. What else is there?

Mrs Nair, 74, lives alone. Her son worries; she won't have a camera at home.

“No camera and nothing on my wrist. It is simply my light, and my son sleeps better.”

Mrs Nair

What happened

She wanted her son to stop worrying, without being watched.

  1. A basket of laundry in the morning sun
    10:05 am

Hanging the laundry, she trips on the step and can't stand up.

  2. 20 seconds later

Her son Arun and her neighbour both get an alert.

  3. Two older women working together in a garden
    10:15 am

Her neighbour, Mrs Pereira, comes over with the spare key.

What you can do

  1. Tell one neighbour where your spare key is.
  2. Carry your phone in a pocket, not on the table.
  3. If you fall, rest first. Roll onto your side, then get to a sturdy chair.
